Hope Station Partners

M & T Bank, has committed a total of $1,000,000; $100,000 a year for ten years, to the project of creating a comprehensive service plan, including the creation of jobs, increased home-ownership, and a healthier, higher quality of life.

Carlisle Area School District: Representatives from the school district are partners in the development of Cyber Space. They provide technical assistance on both hardware and software needs. Their cooperation helps to ensure that the computer needs at the resource center will be compatible with and supplemental to the existing programs offered through the school district.

Carlisle Arts Learning Center: This organization offers instruction in the arts to children and families. These include lessons in painting, drawing, sculpting, and ceramics. Although classes are reasonably priced, the Center offers scholarships to children whose families are on a limited income.

Carlisle Job Center: This agency offers job training and development to neighborhood residents and assistance in job search with its on-line Career Link program.

Carlisle Opportunity Homes: A nonprofit housing corporation involved with home ownership programs and charitable rental housing.

Carlisle Parks and Recreation Department: The borough recreation department offers many opportunities for neighborhood children and families. They sponsor many sporting activities in Memorial Park, as well as a free summer recreation program, which provides structured activities for elementary school aged youth.

Carlisle Police Department: The borough police department has been granted space at Memorial Park Train Station to be used as a police substation. Additionally, the police operate the DARE program as well as the Junior Police Academy, which provides middle school aged youth the opportunity to develop a better understanding of the responsibilities of the police department.

Carlisle Victory Circle: This educational program targeting minority students in grades 9 through 12 offers adult mentors, as well as tutorial and learning opportunities, for students to help prepare them to attend competitive colleges and universities. They developed the Disk to Desk program to train children and their families in the use of personal computers and word processing programs.

Cumberland County Drug and Alcohol Commission: This organization provides free drug and alcohol counseling to neighborhood residents in a community based location.

Dickinson College: The college has been actively involved with the evolution of Cyber Space, the computer resource center, offering technical assistance and students to assist in the process.

Downtown Carlisle Association: As a "Main Street Program," this association focuses on promoting and fostering awareness of historic, economic, social and cultural qualities of Carlisle residents; improving the quality of life for residents, businesses, patrons, and visitors; preventing community deterioration; and assisting in quality business development and recruitment in Carlisle.

Greater Carlisle Area Chamber of Commerce: The focus of this organization is to be a catalyst that will actively promote and support economic growth in the Carlisle region, while continuing to provide enhanced benefits for their membership, as well as to enhance the quality of life for the community.

Housing Authority of Cumberland County: The Housing Authority provides 199 units of public housing in the Borough. Fifty of these were constructed in the early 1990's for senior households. The Housing Authority also administers the Cumberland County Section 8 Rental Assistance Program which helps low income persons and families find affordable housing in privately owned rental units. The Housing Authority's Family Self Sufficiency program provides training for families in Public Housing and in the Section 8 Program.

Pitt Street/North Street Pride: This group of residents meets on a monthly basis to address neighborhood concerns. They participate in National Night Out, as well as organizing neighborhood social activities.

North College Street Neighbors Association: Residents work to improve the safety, appearance, and quality of life of their neighborhood. The association includes student and year-round residents and meets the fourth Tuesday of each month.

Sadler Clinic Services: This health care center offers many services to low income families including prenatal care, dental care, dental services, and free HIV testing.

United Way of Carlisle and Cumberland County: This organization has funded many of the programs mentioned, offered training to enhance the services, and works to convene people around major the issues.

West Louther Street Neighbors Association: Residents conduct monthly meetings to address neighborhood concerns. They have developed a block watch, welcome wagon, and work with other neighborhood associations to develop their own identities.

YWCA of Carlisle: This organization offers many services to neighborhood residents. In partnership with the Housing Authority of Carlisle, they developed Cyber Space, a computer resource center located at 219 North Pitt Street, which is in the Opportunity Area. This center offers computer resources for all ages, children through adults. Additionally, the YWCA provides Rape Crisis services and developed an after school program for elementary school aged children in the Memorial Park neighborhood.
